Sovík, David ; Kopsa Těšinová, Jolana (advisor) ; Nekola, Martin (referee)
The bachelor thesis focuses on the topic of opioid abuse in the United States of America and in the Czech Republic. The current situation of opioid abuse in the USA is called the "Opioid Crisis". The thesis describes the historical development of the problem, including its division into three main phases, in each of which a different opioid is the most abused. In the first phase, it is prescription opioids that are most commonly abused, while the last two stages are dominated by illicit opioid abuse of heroin and fentanyl. The identification of the primary causes of the Opioid Crisis is an important part of the thesis. Purdue Pharma is explicitely mentioned as having manufactured opioids that have directly contributed to the widespread abuse of opioids. Within the thesis, a typology is created in order to clarify which social groups in the USA are the most susceptible to becoming addicted to opioids. In the part of the thesis dedicated to the situation in the Czech Republic, a historical and current perspective of national opioid abuse is provided. Potential present and future threats that could lead to a worsening of the situation are also identified.
Adductive Drugs Abuse among Girls Placed in the Institutions of Institutional Care
HLADÍKOVÁ, Andrea
This bachelor thesis deals with addictive substances in girls placed in foster-care homes. The aim of this thesis was to identify the specific traits of drug abuse and the attitude of girls placed in foster-care homes towards addictive substances. In the theoretical part, using expert literature, I tried to define basic terms related to theis issue. I defined the term of addictive substances, their division and effects, drug abuse, addictive substances in youth and within institutional care. Last but not least, I generally focused on establishments carrying out institutional and foster care and then only on foster-care homes. The practical part is processed via qualitative research, using the method of interrogation. I chose to use the technique of semi-structured interviews I carried out together with girls from a chosen foster home. The interviews were subsequently evaluated using the method of open coding.Using research, I found out there were several specific traits of drug abuse within the chisen foster-care home, although none are specified in expert literature. Approaching addictive substances, research has proven that there are differences between legal and illegal substances. Meanwhile accessing legal addictive substances is easy, accessing illegal substances is understood very differently by every individual girl. This bachelor thesis may be useful for both, the chosen foster-care home as well as other institutions carrying out institutional and protective care. Further, this thesis may serve as a pilot study for further study of this issue or other research. Last but not least, this thesis may benefit expert publication authors who might start dealing with it more often and publish greater amounts of expert articles.
Education of adolescent girls with addictology problem in institutional care
Štromajerová, Kristýna ; Presslerová, Pavla (advisor) ; Vídršperková, Lenka (referee)
This paper focuses on adolescent girls who are clients of a diagnostic institution and have been transferred to a specialized ward with more addictive support due to substance abuse. In this ward, they then attend school facilities that are not part of the institution and, according to the documentation of said ward, they are not successful in their studies and in most cases drop out of high school or apprenticeship. Therefore, the aim of this study was to find out what are the reasons and obstacles that prevent them from successfully completing their studies. The data collection was based on semi-structured interviews with the clients, the teaching staff of the diagnostic institute, the teaching staff of the schools where the clients attend and the parents of the clients. Another method used in this thesis was a detailed analysis of the documentation of the relevant department where the clients are placed. On the basis of the analysis of the interviews by means of selective coding, 41 categories were determined and these were subsequently narrowed down to 6 coherent themes that can be considered as direct causes of the school failure of the mentioned clients: self-assessment, finances, choice of field of study, problems at primary school, method of education, lack of information of class teachers....
The potential of psychedelics in the treatment of drug addiction in animal models.
Mallarino, Barbara ; Šíchová, Klára (advisor) ; Honc, Ondřej (referee)
Psychedelics are mind-altering and perception-changing psychoactive compounds that can produce some significant changes in the ordinary wiring of the brain. Substantial attention is paid to some of the most promising compounds for addiction and mental health research: LSD, tryptamines (psilocybin, DMT) and ibogaine. The underlying neurobiological basis of the development of addiction and relevant animal models and methods are described in the first part. Following, changes in brain regions connectivity induced by psychedelics and molecular mechanisms of action are discussed, emphasising the potential anti-addictive properties. The last part of the thesis focuses on data acquired from preclinical animal studies, which helps to further understand some of the mechanisms underlying their effectiveness in the clinical treatment of drug addiction.
